An international team of Northrop & Johnson sales and charter brokers just returned home from a tour of the key shipyards in Northern Turkey. They included Numarine, Turquoise, Bilgin, Ursa, RMK Marine/Sirena, Magnolia/Evadne, Mengi Yay and Vision F.
The purpose of the visit was to audit and assess each yard’s build quality, slot availability, construction techniques, new engineering methods and innovative construction techniques being pioneered. It was also an invaluable opportunity to connect with the key people involved in new build projects.
“As a brokerage house with numerous new build projects underway at any one time, we regularly organize tours of shipyards around the world so we can advise our clients on the best yards for their specific project,” says Patrick Coote, N&J’s European Managing Director. “We have a responsibility to our clients to be knowledgeable and up-to-date on all the latest developments in the industry. Our shipyard tour in Turkey was another important step in doing just that.”
During the tour, one of the most eagerly anticipated visits was to Numarine, where several hulls are under construction. During the build process, it’s not unusual for the managing broker to conduct tours and inspect the vessel to ensure project milestones are met.
Denis Kaymaz, N&J’s representative in Istanbul, comments, “Visiting the shipyards during the build process is essential to ensure the builds are progressing as they should and to spot any issues that may arise before they become a larger problem. During the tour, we could see that our current new build projects at Numarine are all progressing smoothly and according to plan. We were particularly impressed by the level of attention to detail and quality of workmanship.”
Along with N&J’s brokers, members of our Deep Data team and support staff were also invited to join the tour.
“Touring the yards is a valuable opportunity for our team to gain a deeper understanding of the new build processes and network with key industry players. This latest experience will benefit us in supporting N&J as a whole, as we continue to provide our brokers and clients with the latest intelligence and data,” observed Anne Dixon, Director of Deep Data.
Patrick Coote added, “On behalf of the N&J team, we sincerely thank all the shipyards for being such gracious hosts—and bringing us up to speed on all their latest developments. We look forward to our next visit!
