Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez originates from a chance meeting over 30 years ago. It all began in September 1981 when an American couple with a competitive Swan sailed into Saint-Tropez after the Swan Cup in Porto Cervo. Their visit led to a friendly challenge, starting with a Swan 44 versus a 12-meter JI, giving birth to the Club 55 Cup or the Niolargue.
Over the years, the event evolved, yet it always remained true to its spirit, one of pure enjoyment and a break from the intense summer season.
In 1995, a tragic accident involving the schooner Mariette and the 6 MJI Taos Brett marked the end of the Club 55 Cup; however, sailors and locals pushed for the event’s revival.
In 1999, the Voiles de Saint-Tropez was born, continuing the tradition of gathering modern and classic boats for end-of-season regattas. Today, the event welcomes more than 250 boats with an equal number of modern and classic vessels.
